Paganism Redefined

In my research of UU Worlds from 1960 to 2005 for Young Adult & Campus Ministry articles and notations, I found this in the Mar/Apr 1998 UU World in Bits & Pieces:

Leaders of the major US pagan organizations, including the Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans (CUUPS), have written to six major dictionary publishers urging them to adopt new definitions for neo-paganism and witchcraft.  They define neo-paganism as "a collection of diverse contemporary religions rooted in indigenous traditions or deriving inspiration therefrom, characterized by a belief in the interconnection of all life, personal autonomy, and immanent divinities.  Often nature-centered and supportive of gender equity."  They define witchcraft as "a neo-pagan religion, loosely organized in autonomous traditions, honoring masculine and/or feminine divinities and practicing magic and folk traditions for benevolent ends, such as healing and the mystical development of the self.  Wicca."
